Retreat:

Friday, March 27 - Sunday, March 29

Arrive Friday at 2:00pm

Depart Sunday at 3:00pm

WHERE:

Cascades Camp and Conference Center

22825 Peissner Rd SE, Yelm WA

(About one hour and 45 minutes south of Seattle)

WHAT:

A weekend of laughter, rest, and togetherness in a picturesque setting where families who have a child with cancer can make fun memories and connect with other families on the same journey. All activities are tailored for the families we serve with their safety, comfort, and enjoyment in mind. Our volunteer team will do everything we can to set the table for an awesome experience!

WHO:

We're looking for volunteers to play a variety of roles as we host 22-24 TLC families.

Volunteers must be 18+ years old. There are a limited number of volunteer opportunities for kids age 10-17 to serve as long as a parent/chaperone is signed up to volunteer as well.

Volunteer roles include:

  • FUN FINDERS: making sure kids and families have an awesome experience

  • WORK CREW: various essential behind-the0scenes duties

  • CRAFTS: help facilitate creative projects all weekend long

  • FOOD & HOSPITALITY: serve snacks, coffee, and other fun treats

  • PARENT SUPPORT: support special activities (like a spa and a parent game time) just for TLC Parents

  • ONE DAY VOLUNTEERS: we will build a small team of volunteers to serve mid-day on Saturday

  • ...and more!

We invite volunteers to make a donation of $150 to help cover the costs of your food and lodging. This is not required, but we hope you can contribute whatever you can to support the weekend.

SAFETY:

We want to be sure families feel safe at this event! Our TLC Medical Team will be on-site all weekend to support and advise about any medical issues that may arise. This team includes two Oncology Nurse Practitioners from Seattle Children's, and the Director of Nursing at Fred Hutch Cancer Center.

We will protect the safety of families and volunteers in the following ways:

  • HEALTH SCREENING: Upon arrival at the event, volunteers and TLC families will be asked to respond to a set of questions about any concerning physical symptoms you might be experiencing, and any known exposure to illness. We will also take your temperature.

  • VACCINATIONS: While vaccinations are not required for this event, we STRONGLY ENCOURAGE all participants to be up-to-date on all vaccinations, including Covid, Influenza, and Measles/MMR.

  • MASKS: Masks will be optional at this event. We will ask volunteers to be prepared to wear masks whenever they are in close proximity to families who may choose to wear masks.

  • CLEAN HANDS: We will have plenty of hand sanitizer and handwashing stations to maintain hand hygeine throughout the event.

All volunteers will be asked to complete a national background check in order to volunteer (no cost to you).
